The loss of her mother, Siân Davies, who struggled with mental health issues and alcohol addiction, left a profound impact on her.
"After losing my mum, I found it really difficult to reconnect with performing," Lowri said. This period of disengagement from the stage was a time of self-discovery and a shift in priorities. Lowri channeled her energy into supporting those struggling with addiction and homelessness, a path influenced by her mother's own battles.
A New Perspective on Addiction
Lowri's work in the criminal justice system gave her a unique perspective on addiction. She recognized the importance of addressing the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction, a topic that her mother struggled with. By sharing her mother's story, Lowri emphasizes the need for open dialogue and support.
"I think she could have definitely done with a lot more support but she didn't really want the support because of the stigma surrounding it," she said. "I feel proud that I can talk about the issues that my mum had and how important it is to talk about it because people don't talk about addiction enough."
Rediscovering the Stage
Despite her successful career in Sheffield, Lowri's heart longed for the bright lights of the West End. The realization that something was still missing led her to rediscover her passion for musical theatre. Dancing and singing lessons reignited her love for the art form, reminding her of the joy and fulfillment it brought.
"I just woke up one day and was like, I've tried all these different things, something is still missing," she said. "The second that I started dancing, I started doing singing lessons again, I was like, oh my god, where has this been?"
A New Chapter in London
Lowri's determination to pursue her dreams led her to make a bold decision. She sold her house, quit her job, and headed south to London, where she will start intensive training at the London School of Musical Theatre. This decision, though difficult, is a testament to her resilience and the strength of her passion.
"There were times when I thought that part of her life had gone forever," said her father, Neil Anderson. "Seeing Lowri rediscover something she loved so much has been one of the greatest joys of my life."
Lowri's journey is a powerful reminder that grief can be overcome, and that pursuing one's passions can lead to personal growth and fulfillment. As she embarks on this new chapter, she carries the legacy of her mother's struggles and the importance of open dialogue about addiction, inspiring others to find their own paths to healing and self-expression.
